Traffic increased as I got closer to civilization, but the pace was still good. Made it to Walla Walla and checked into that cheap-low-budget Capri Motel that is exactly the kind of place to find NORWESTARS. Dave Grossman, the high caliber attorney TV producers base their law dramas about, came by to greet me with a, “Hello Captain.” He made a dash home to change out of his lawyer getup and into something akin to motorcycle casual to act as my tour guide. I guilted him into a salad at a great pub down the street, and then went on a sight-seeing tour of downtown. For a town of 32,000 Walla Walla has a beautiful, quaint and sophisticated commercial center. A desirable vibe with street dining restaurants, unique shops, sans the chain-store sterilization seen elsewhere, and people with smiles enjoying the evening in this recently established wine mecca.
