LA SMOG AND CONFETTI

16 Aug 2017–Departed Christina Lake this morning after a protein shake breakfast that satisfied me about as much as that crap you drink the day before a colonoscopy.  I headed up to Nakusp, and up the mountains rose with equal enthusiasm.  I will say that the surrounding mountains that guarded the roadway both port and starboard made route 6 feel like an ocean inlet in a Norwegian Fjord and was just as majestic and beautiful.  There were more curves than a Miss America pageant; the asphalt twisted through the landscape in long sweeping turns and hairpin, blind twists with equal distribution.  I had little traffic through Miss Kansas, Miss Texas, and Miss New Jersey, and what little there was found its way into my rearview mirror with no effort.  Trying to describe the views through these Canadian Rockies, each splendid in it uniqueness, would be like trying to describe a piece of confetti in Lindbergh’s Manhattan ticker tape parade–too many and overwhelming in vastness.  I did come across a BMW rider, from Ontario, CA, Nakusp bound, but Trafalgar would not slow down to ride in tandem.  The only deficiency of note was the forest fire smoke that laid over the mountains like LA smog blanketed over the San Gabriel Mountains.  Days like these are what we motorcyclist’s live for, that opportunity to get in the “zone.”  I only wish Rachelle could have joined me on this exhilarating charge through the Canadian Rockies.  I eventually reached Nakusp and had lunch at the Broadway Deli, where I devoured a sumptuous chicken brie sandwich.  It was a wonderful day of riding that begs philosophical pontification about the joys of this two-wheel mode of transportation.  I look forward to the opportunity to be with friends and family.  Next year I shall do this with two bikes, so that I may double my experience by sharing moments like today with a loved one, Rachelle.

I took very few pictures today because I was otherwise occupied with the acceleration, both literally and figuratively.  Besides, I would simply be disappointed in the inability of the camera to capture the moments.
