Rockies, eh?

Anxious for a shower and a chance to do laundry this morning, I packed up and put Rexford in my review mirror.  A quick stop in Eureka, MT to restock on toothpaste and deodorant, I rode up to the border and noticed the Duty Free had WiFi so logged on for a blog before crossing into the great North.

Unfortunately, Canada, as great and friendly our neighbors are up here, lacks many back roads or interstates for that matter.  They do have fast speed limits, too fast for the two lane roads crowded with underpowered RVs and anxious drivers trying to get somewhere faster.  I had to stop at 3 & 93 Diner for the “Best Burger in BC.”

After wolfing-down a Best-Burger-in-BC burger I got back into line with the steady flow of traffic.  The Rocky Mountains presented a majestic wall of stone and trees that reign high over the valley I found myself in.  Really, any description I could offer would do the vista, the ambiance, the magnitude of the mountains an injustice.  Stopped at Fort Steele, a pioneer town, preserved in time for us tourists; I did a quick tour, but it was too hot for riding gear.  It is at the base of the Rocky Mountains, an outpost for Royal Canadian Mounties and a historical gateway to the region.

I was surprised by the number of beautiful golf courses and the number of small attractive communities in Columbia Valley.  The great architecture, newer homes, and caliber businesses give the region a feel of someplace growing and economically prosperous, and Rockies really add to the sense of the place.

I turned off toward Banff, stopping at the toll booth for the Provincial Park and the Ranger suggested that if I were looking for someplace to sleep tonight, I should stay in Radium.  Therefore, I did a U-turn and found a room since there was no campgrounds other than RV parks.  The heat, the shower, the laundry, all factors that made the decision to get a room at the Alpine Motel.  Now I’m waiting for the proprietor to finish my laundry!  What a score, eh!DSC00727.JPGDSC00751.JPG
